The Color Gold

The time had finally come to shoot my last color/ subject and I was eager to finally be finishing up the shooting aspect of the series! Also, it was with my long time friend, Mareesa! I went back to my mood board and started the process of figuring out what exactly each setup would entail. I knew I wanted to display the glitz and glam of gold but also really show how confident and powerful the color can be! I wanted my subject to feel empowered while also looking and feeling incredible!

I really wanted to play around with the concept of using a window to create more dynamic lighting while adding the element of haze. So, I started by clearing out the entry room of my home, turns out my house has a ton of great shooting locations! I already had a ton of white tulle from another shoot, but had to order the gold from Amazon. I also ordered some very inexpensive gold curtains off of Amazon as well. I moved in a lightbox , the haze machine and my trusty ring light and was ready to shoot!

I pulled an old ladder out of my studio and figured why not use it as well! So I piled the tulle around the ladder and got some great shots of her on it as well! What you cannot see is that I had to stand on my dinning table (it’s actually a piece of bowling alley floor so don’t worry!) to get the shot below!

We went ahead and took some more photos on the stairs in my home, another great location! After we finished with the first setups/ outfit, it was time to move into the studio. This is where the real fun began! I pulled down my trusty black drop and started playing with some gold fabrics!

I had a ton of fun with this black and gold combination!

I was really excited about trying out the gold foil flakes I had ordered for this shoot. It was definitely a trial and error to get them to stick to skin but, in the end, I really liked the result! Of course I had to also use the haze machine here…
