The Color Blue!
After cleaning up all the paint and powder from my purple shoot, it was time to start prepping for the color blue. My model was Mari Lappalainen, who was absolutely incredible! Based on her answers, I knew I wanted to focus on the connection to the elements, earth and space. I began pulling reference images I felt really conveyed who she was while giving myself some really cool elements to play with.

I debated for awhile where I would shoot these outdoor, almost mystical shots. I knew I wanted a location with a ton of green but also private enough where there wouldn’t be people walking by. Turns out, in the spring my backyard is an abundance of green and privacy! I brought out the tallest ladder I had, a light box and had a friend to help me with the haze. The only real issue we had were the mosquitos were really out and about that day! Otherwise, I was really pleased with how the images turned out for this.
My back yard also has this really great little pond where I was able to create the photos with the blue satin, you’ll have to see the full series for those!
When we were finished outside, it was time to move into the studio. I had bought some blue bendable LED lights and mounted them to this circle I cut out of foam. I took this circle and rigged it so it hung behind Mari’s head. By now you should be able to guess I also brought in some tulle! It’s honestly one of my favorite fabrics to use in shoots. With Mari looking fantastic, I added some haze and began shooting. I was really happy with how all of these shots turned out. Towards the end, I had so much fun playing with this mixture of body glitters to create almost this galaxy feel to the shots. Again, you’ll have to look at the full series to see those!
